Timeline of the Outage

By 2PM ET, OpenAI acknowledged the issue on its status page, noting that ChatGPT, the API, and its text-to-video generator Sora were experiencing high error rates. By 6:15PM ET, Sora was fully operational again, and APIs were starting to recover. However, OpenAI was still working on an overall fix for ChatGPT and its APIs.

Microsoft, OpenAI's exclusive cloud provider, reported a power issue at one of its datacenters that started around the same time as the OpenAI problems.
