TikTok, the popular short-form video platform, and Marvel Snap, an entertainment game, both owned by ByteDance, have been restored in the US after a brief period of inaccessibility due to a divest-or-ban law. The law, which went into effect on January 19th, caused a temporary blackout of these apps. However, an executive order issued by Donald Trump on January 20th, instructed the Attorney General to delay enforcement of the Act for 75 days. Despite this, major tech companies Google and Apple have not yet reinstated TikTok or other ByteDance apps on their platforms.

TikTok's Restoration

In a message released on Sunday, TikTok announced that it was in the process of restoring service and extended gratitude towards President-elect Donald Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to their service providers. The assurance that they would face no penalties for reinstating the app has been instrumental in TikTok's return.

Marvel Snap's Comeback and Future Plans

Marvel Snap, which was also impacted by the divest-or-ban law, is now back online. The game's current publisher, Nuverse, is owned by ByteDance. In a statement released on Monday, the game's developer, Second Dinner, shared plans to bring more services in-house and partner with a new publisher to prevent a similar situation from happening in the future.

Google and Apple's Response

Despite Trump's executive order delaying the enforcement of the divest-or-ban law, Google and Apple have not yet restored TikTok or any other ByteDance apps to the App Store or Google Play. The reasons behind their decision remain unclear.
