Apple's plans to roll out more personalized Siri features have been delayed, according to a statement from company spokesperson Jacqueline Roy. These features, which include Siri's ability to understand personal context and take action within and across apps, were expected to launch this spring but now might not arrive until iOS 20 at best. The delay has been attributed to the need for further development and testing, as well as internal concerns around their functionality. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that these features may even need to be rebuilt from scratch.

The Evolution of Siri

Over the past six months, Apple has been working on making Siri more conversational. This includes introducing new features like 'type to Siri' and product knowledge, and integrating Siri with ChatGPT. The goal is to make Siri more aware of the user's personal context and able to take action for them within and across apps.

Internal Concerns and Delays

Despite these advancements, Apple executives, including software boss Craig Federighi, have voiced strong concerns that the features are not working properly or as advertised in their personal testing. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that people in Apple's AI division believe that work on the features could potentially be scrapped altogether, leading to a need for them to be rebuilt from scratch.

The Future of Siri

Despite the delay, Apple remains committed to enhancing Siri's capabilities. While the timeline has been pushed back, the company anticipates rolling out these advanced features in the 'coming year'. The goal remains to make Siri more personalized and context-aware, ultimately creating a more seamless and intuitive user experience.

Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we've made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT. It's going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.
