Dreams of Another is a shooter game that flips the traditional concept on its head. Instead of using your gun to destroy, you use it to create the world around you. The game's graphics have a dreamy, deconstructed quality, and when you shoot, the unfocused scenes solidify into objects like buildings and people. The game ends with a conventional shootout against a sentient manhole cover, adding a surprising twist to an otherwise unconventional game. The game's innovative concept has left us intrigued and looking forward to what developer Q-Games will do with the final version.
Faraway offers a unique gameplay experience where you play as a shooting star creating constellations. The game requires pressing and holding one button to spin around other stars, creating a trail and playing a celestial game of connect the dots. Despite its simplicity, Faraway has an immediate appeal. A brief 10-minute demo is enough to grasp the game's mechanics and start creating elaborate, high-scoring constellations. The game's simplicity and charm make it one of the standout games of the conference.
While most of the event is about networking and interesting talks about game design and technology, there were also a bunch of unreleased indie games that we got to check out. Yes, much of video games in 2025 will probably be defined by the Nintendo Switch 2 and Grand Theft Auto VI. But based on the games we played, there might be some really fun smaller titles that could be huge hits this year, too.
