With ActivityPub, Ghost(Pro) users can publish content directly to the fediverse, providing them with more freedom compared to platforms like Substack. This feature enhances the interaction between Ghost writers and their audience, as it allows users from different platforms to follow and engage with the content.
Ghost also features an Inbox where users can receive news articles and blogs from across Ghost and WordPress. Moreover, Ghost has developed its own social web reader software that can view posts from compatible social media services, notify users of engagement on their content, and allow customization of public profiles.
Despite its benefits, the ActivityPub support doesn't work smoothly everywhere. For instance, Meta's Threads services do not allow Ghost users to interact directly with Threads users. However, Ghost(Pro) users can activate ActivityPub under Ghost Admin > Settings > Labs.
The integration of ActivityPub not only extends the reach of Ghost writers who pay for the Pro subscription but also allows social users to comment on posts regardless of the app they're using. This openness sets Ghost apart from its larger competitor, Substack, which restricts its users from sharing posted content off-platform.
